The Malaysian rubber market ended lower today mainly due to the downtrend of the Tokyo rubber futures, dealers said.
They said the rubber prices on Tokyo Commodity Exchange fell on selling pressures following the sharp decline in crude oil price.
However, they said, the local rubber market fundamentals remained intact due to shortage in supply.
"Rubber production was down due to heavy rains which disrupted tapping activities," a dealer said. At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 declined seven sen to 565.0 sen per kg and latex in bulk eased five sen to 427.5 sen per kg respectively. The unofficial sellers' closing physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 lost eight sen to 561.5 sen per kg and latex in bulk dropped 5.5 sen to 425.0 sen per kg.
